This is a set of 12 colors of ink in collaboration with SOLID INK and HORITOMO, a Japanese tattoo artist based in San Jose, California, U.S.A. The set is available in two sizes: 118ml (4oz) and 30ml (1oz). There are two bottle sizes: 118ml (4oz) and 30ml (1oz).

With a 30-year career as a tattoo artist, Carved Tomoe is known as a rare person who is well versed in traditional Japanese tattoo culture, including hand-engraving. He has published "Immovable -FUDO MYO-O TATTOO DESIGN-," a book in English with explanations of the history and designs related to Fudo Myoo, as well as "Monmon Cats," a collection of cute cat designs that are accessible to those not interested in Japanese tattoos. He has also designed tattoos for the popular video game series "Ryu ga Gotoku," and has introduced the stories, worldview, spirituality, and aesthetics of traditional Japanese tattoos to the world.

This ink set has been developed and tested by himself, mixing the essential color tones for the carving style of Tomoe. It is a very attractive color palette that brings the old-fashioned traditional Japanese colors to the present and at the same time provides an understanding of the classic expression of Japanese tattooing. Solid Ink's "HORITOMO SUMI SET" can be used for "forehead engraving" on the background to accentuate the design.
Solid Ink's highly concentrated pigment blends keep vivid colors on the skin for many years.

Contents of the set
1) Ocher (Odo)
Odo is a brownish yellow color reminiscent of straw and woodworking materials. It can also be used for the heavenly garments of the Wind God and Thunder God. This color is useful when you want a subtle hue.

(2) Moegi
Moegi has been used in Japan since the Heian period (794-1192). It is also famous as one of the three colors used for the formal curtains of kabuki, a traditional Japanese performing art. In addition to being an ideal base color for dragons, it is also suitable for the kimonos of wind gods, demons, and warriors, as well as the color of chrysanthemum and peony leaves.

3) Wakanae
Wakanae is a fresh yellow-green color like young seedlings at the time of rice planting. This light green color is ideal for Buddhist altarware, kimono patterns, and the underside of leaves.

4) Citrus (Koji)
Koji, a bright yellow with reddish tints, is closely related to Buddhism. It is best used as the base color for tigers in tattoos and for the metal parts of samurai armor. It goes well with bright and vivid yellow, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the ukiyoe prints of yesteryear.

5) Kikyo
This color is derived from the Kikyo flower, and has been a favorite traditional color since the Heian period (794-1192). The bluish purple color has a graceful elegance and is suitable for kimonos worn by warriors and oiran (courtesans).

(6) Bengara
Bengara is a subdued reddish-brown color that became popular during the Edo period (1603-1867). It has been used for a very long time in Japanese tattooing since the days when there were only a limited number of colors other than sumi ink. By using Bengara, Shu, and Sumi set, you can express the good old classic Japanese tattoo.

(7) Shu
Shu is a color between red and orange, and has existed in Japan since ancient times. It has been used as a basic color for Japanese tattoos for a very long time, since the days when there were only a limited number of colors other than sumi ink. By using Bengara, Shu, and Sumi set, you can express the good old classic Japanese tattoo.

8) Sakura
This is a pale pink color that represents the petals of cherry blossoms, which symbolize Japan. In old Japanese tattoos, vermilion was used for cherry blossoms, but this color is faithful to real cherry blossoms. This modern color creates a very soft atmosphere and is effective when used as eye shadow for celestial maidens and ukiyo-e style women.

Shinbashi
Shinbashi color became popular among geisha in Tokyo's Shinbashi district around the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912). The bright blue tone with a slight greenish tinge would be a good color for kimono as well as for ghosts and goblins.

⑩Gunjo
Gunjo is a deeper blue, like a toned-down version of ultramarine blue. In Japan, it has long been a standard color for men's clothing. It is favored by samurai for their kimonos and armor.

(11) Fudo Blue Black
This color represents the body color of Fudo Myoo. Although there are other colors for Fudo Myoo-oh, this color was inspired by a ninth-century monk's description in the "Fudo Jyukan" that his skin is "blue-black. It is a strong and good color for the Ārya.

⑫Fudo Blue Grey
This color is intended to be used together with Fudo Blue Black; the combination of the two colors gives a powerful image of Fudo Myoo. For a lighter tone, use Fudo Blue Grey as a base color and mix Fudo Blue Black and Solid Ink's WHITE in a 1:1 ratio to produce a lighter shade.
