Neuma 4 CAM
This is a cam (CAM) developed by Neuma for pen-type rotary machines.
Normally, the machine comes with four cams with different stroke cycles, but these cams are sold separately for additional or replacement use. Stroke lengths of 2.75 mm, 3.6 mm, and 4.2 mm are supported.
Each stroke cycle is characterized by the hardness or flexibility of the needle against the skin as well as the speed of the piston as the needle moves in and out of the cartridge tip. Generally, the lower the percentage, the faster the hand movement.
20% cam (liner): good for all-around use, ideal for lines with fast hand movement.
28% Cam (Shedder): Ideal for fast shading and color blending.
33% cam (blender): soft blacks and grays, ideal for slow shading with ink mixing and layering
40% cam (Packer): Ideal for slow hand fills and color packing of blacks and grays.
[Explanation
20% is an all-rounder, but outstanding as a liner. This cam has made many people fall in love with the "Neuma 4" series. It has a very sharp needle launch and quick recoil, and is well known for feeling like a coil machine in operation even though it is a pen-type machine.
The 28% is ideal for shading. It is especially suited for smooth shading and gradation in blacks and grays. It has a fast recoil but soft hit.
The 33% has the slowest needle speed, so the needle hit is softer, but the pull has the same rapid recoil as the 20%. It is recommended for ultra-soft gray shading and layering colors that are to be applied in layers, as it does not cause excessive damage to the skin. This cam is not recommended for lines.
The 40% is a softer hit and has a slower recoil. It is ideal for realistics such as solid color packing, blending, and color & light with slow hand movements.
Neuma (Neuma) is a manufacturer in Thousand Oaks, California, USA, that makes and sells machines developed by tattoo artist and machine designer Carson Hill.
